3. Considering the rapid pace of change in food retail, how have your labels kept up over the years to maintain customer attraction? What’s your typical frequency for updating label design/material (e.g., every 10/5 years), and what key factors drive those changes (3/4 reasons)?

Indeed, the industry is constantly changing and developing, and we at Olympus are focused on innovation, in parallel with excellence in the quality of our products. Packaging plays a very important role both in the shelf selection process and in the sales process. In a country where consumers like to be impressed by design, to feel a connection with it, and to observe it easily, we are obligated to keep up with their demands. Over the years, we have gone through several design change phases to be able to communicate more clearly the key messages we want to convey to the consumer, as well as to align with the range level. The frequency of changes is dictated by necessity; I couldn’t say that there’s a standard set time interval, because that wouldn’t be accurate. Change comes as a need to remain relevant, aesthetically pleasing, and with key messages transmitted to consumers.

4. How do product labels impact consumers’ purchasing decisions?

We can approach the subject from two perspectives: on one hand, the connection the consumer has with the brand, where trust built over time becomes more important than aesthetics; on the other hand, attracting new consumers through the label and through additional communication. Besides its informative function, the label plays an essential role in capturing attention, arousing curiosity and triggering interest in trying the product. Ultimately, consumer loyalty depends entirely on the quality of the product.

There are also specific triggers, such as competitions promoted on packaging, that can boost sales during certain times of the year. Currently, print technologies offer almost unlimited possibilities, and producers are constantly trying to innovate and surprise. In this context, close collaboration between the producer and the label supplier becomes essential to identify creative techniques and approaches that ensure impactful aesthetic results. However, these efforts to achieve high-quality printing would be incomplete without the use of matching materials.

5. What steps have you implemented to ensure the sustainability of the labels and how have they been received by consumers?

Our company is dedicated to sustainability, a commitment that is reflected in the many projects we run. At an operational level, we have our own biogas plant, a photovoltaic panel park and vertical storage systems. We are also focusing on the development of sustainable packaging, pioneering the market with the introduction of R-PET packaging for milk bottles and the use of PET instead of PS for Olympus yoghurts, and as of this month we also have removable labels for proper selective recycling. We support these initiatives through sustainability education projects to inform and inspire consumers, which have been very well received over the years.

6. What would you wish for Rottaprint for its 33rd anniversary?

We warmly congratulate them on 33 years in business! Over the years, we have built together a partnership based on trust, which has supported us in our development and innovation at the shelf.
